I almost had two guinea pigs today.
I bought a girl guinea pig today. I named her Layla. She was very sweet and very inquisitive about the world around her. She purred more than Peni does and she just wanted to lay on my lap.
But when I got her home I noticed something about my poor guinea. Her left eye kept pouring out this white discharge and her nose kept running. I thought she just had not been taken good care of so I washed out her eye and cleaned up her nose. But like...10 minutes later the discharge and the boogers came back. I kept cleaning her poor little eye and nose for 2 hours. I figure this is why she was so affectionate...because she was in pain and I was taking care of her. Unfortunately, I do not have time this week to tend to her illness. I don't know what was wrong with her, but I also didn't want to get Peni sick. So...sadly, I took her back to the pet store. They offered to take her and make her all better and give her back to me, but I said no.
I was really uneasy of buying her when I did, and I guess that is why. She was a sweet guinea pig though. But I fear she might be weak and get sick easily, and I don't have time for sick guinea pigs.
I just hope she didn't get Peni sick...we introduced them and the nuzzled and it was precious. But if she got her nasty discharge on my guinea pig, I will be very sad :(
I am going to San Marcos tomorrow to look at healthy guinea pigs.
